Nature trail the Slaný Hill

The nature trail Slaný Hill begins at the southern part of the hill in the street Pod horou. It has seven stops provided with signboards discribing the place and its uniqueness. Unhappily, a lot of them have been damaged by vandals. The trail is touristically marked.

We climb to the hilltop through a forrest with prevailing deciduous trees. The diversity of plants will suprise you in Spring. You can also hear birds sing (warblers, throstles or robin redbreasts) and if you are lucky you can even hear a nightingale.

After reaching the very hilltop you can see three crosses there. You can learn about their history from the signboard. There is a nice view of the industrial zone of the town from the hilltop. The walk goes on along the peak where interesting vegetation can be seen.

A big scar reminding us of the basalt mining makes us realize that the Slaný Hill was nearly flattened. Despite the effort of environmentalists an archeologically important place has been destroyed...

The trail bends on the peak and runs back through the northern part. You should take great care of your children because of occurrence of steep rocks. Here you can see beatiful basalt columns that were created during the rock hardening. Scarce flora and fauna have been preserved in the rifts and uncovered parts of the rocks - various songbirds, kestrels, owls and bats.

Before we go down the hill, we will stop at Na vyhlídce to enjoy the lovely view of the historical heart of the town. The remaining part of the trail goes in serpentines between rock spurs and ends in Chadalíkova street.

We hope you have enjoyed the walk and will help us to protect our beautiful nature.
